Chocolate Rum Balls

These chocolate rum balls make a perfect edible gift for the holidays. They are simple to make, super chocolatey with a hint of rum!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground walnuts
  • 2 cups icing sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 4 oz. milk chocolate
  • 4 oz. dark chocolate
  • 2 Tablespoons whipping cream
  • 2 Tablespoons coffee liqueur (Kahlua)
  • 1/4 cup rum (dark rum)
  • cocoa or chocolate sprinkles for topping (approx. 1/4 cup)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix together ground walnuts, icing sugar and cocoa powder.
  2. In a heatproof bowl add, chocolates, cream, coffee liqueur, and rum. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water. Melt chocolate and liquids together until smooth. Remove from heat and cool for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add chocolate to sugar and mix well.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Set aside.
  5. In a small bowl add cocoa (or sprinkles) for rolling your rum balls.
  6. Using a spoon, scoop out approx. 1 – 1 1/2 teaspoon size of the dough and roll into a ball. Place on prepared baking sheet and repeat until all the dough is used.
  7. Next, roll each ball into cocoa to cover the entire ball.
  8. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

Rum balls will last one month in the fridge.
You can re-roll the balls in cocoa to freshen them up.
These are very rich so be sure to make your rum balls tiny.
