This old fashioned peach cobbler is a classic, simple recipe that is super juicy. The peaches are poured over the batter to create a biscuit like topping that peaks through the peaches.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 large peaches, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping

  • 6 Tablespoons (85 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup full milk, at room temperature
  • ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ËšF.
  2. Add sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine.
Cook peaches on medium heat for a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and juices from the peaches start to flow. Remove from heat and set aside. Note: If your peaches are soft, juicy and fresh you don’t have to heat them, just mix in the sugar and salt and set aside.
  3. Add butter to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the dish with butter in the oven for approx. 2 minutes to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the dish from the oven.
  4. In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, mix until combined and no lumps. Pour the mixture into the pan over the melted butter.
  5. Spoon the peaches and juice over the batter. Then sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  6. Bake for about 30-40 minutes or until the top is browned and mixture is bubbling.
  7. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

Step 2 is only necessary if you have hard peaches that need to be softened and to help get the juices flowing. If your peaches are soft, juicy and fresh you don’t have to heat them, just mix in the sugar and salt and set aside.
