How It Started

Food; desserts in particular, have always evoked happy memories for me. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always shown a curiosity for anything creative in the kitchen. I grew up surrounded by good cooks and bakers that enjoyed sharing their love for cooking and baking, which always brought our family and friends together. My grandma’s recipes are treasured and have been lovingly handed down through generations, and my Mom and I have spent countless hours together working side by side in the kitchen. ’Baking for Friends’ has evolved because of this love that I grew up with; baking and cooking for my family and friends!

Before blogging I was the owner and primary baker for Simply Sweet Desserts located in the Kawartha Lakes. I developed recipes and baked for cafes, restaurants, catered weddings and special events. I loved being a part of my customer’s special day and producing classic or unique desserts for them to create new beautiful memories.

In 2016 I made the switch from sharing my recipes at events and cafes to sharing them online with all of you! I created the blog in the hope that I can bring back classic baking into your home.

More About Me

Food has become a sort of love language for me”.

I enjoy spending my time in the garden, growing my own veggies, berries, and herbs. I love walking around markets and sourcing out fresh yummy local finds like honey to use in new and easy baking recipes and finding new cafes or markets to share with all of you! Entertaining is one of my most enjoyable pleasures, to be able to share the simple joys of food with the people I love. And I hope to bring the same joys into your kitchen with your family and friends!

For fun, I studied tea sommelier at George Brown College and took wine courses as well. Although I do not have the time to become a sommelier, I do love to learn about the culture, and the process and to understand all that goes into creating a beautiful glass of vino or a delicate tea.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know about Sophie! She is my pup – a boxer/lab mix and my pure joy! She’s made a few appearances on the blog too, and I’ve even come up with a few puppy recipes!

Inspiration & Travel

I’m inspired by my family traditions, the places I’ve travelled, the people I’ve worked with, and the beauty of nature. This all pours out into my baking. When I make a dessert, I can’t help but be influenced by these simple details. South Africa has become like a second home to me, and you’ll find a handful of recipes on the blog that inspired my time there. I could probably start a whole other blog on South Africa alone! If you find yourself heading that way, you may find some of my travel posts helpful:

I’ve categorized each recipe on the blog from easy to difficult to help you see where you’d fit for your skill level or your sense of adventure.

If you’re new to baking, you may want to start here and work your way to more advanced recipes. And don’t forget I’m always just a click away, so don’t be afraid to reach out to me, ask questions and, of course, please rate and comment on the recipes. We can all learn from good feedback.
